which amp should i get

Whats up,

Iam still new to car audio but plan on going to mobile dynamics car audio school in arizona but the thing I wanted to get, is to get comments and input on which amp i should get to get the best thump from my subs. I am building my first custom sub box. the subs i have are 2 10" rockford fosgate RFD2210 Punch HX2 3.0" Voice Coil DUal 4 Ohms 1000 watts max power.

thanks

your first lesson is never go by max power ever! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif always go by rms. if i remeber correctly those subs are 500 watts rms. given they are dual 4 ohm you need an amp that does 1000 watts rms at 1 or 4 ohms. we also need a budget but here is a little list to get you started: orion 1200D, viper d1200.1, PG tantrum or xenon 1200.1, cadence z1200, crossfire vr1000D, kicker kx1200.1 and many pthers i can't think of right now

Hey,

Thanks for the tip about the max power thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . i was planning on getting my system to all be rockford fosgate, like the subs, amp, and capacitor. i also wanted to know which model would you recommend to get the best thump.

thanks

well rockford amps are very solid amps. depending on your budget i would recommend the RF T10001. don't get a cap. there just about useless.

Sorry to derail a bit here, but why are caps useless? I thought they helped with the electrical input to the amp? I have a Hufgen 15 Farad Digital Cap bank installed and if it doesn no good, then I would like that room back lol. Just looking for an explanation as to why they are no good.

caps are always misused. most people use them with voltage problems. a cap stores up current. it has to get the current from somewhere, right? so that is another strain on your electrical sysetm. if you have a poor electrical system, another strain isn't going to help it. caps are designed to realease current instantly. this is good if you have a HO alt. and when the amp requires a boost in current for a specific bass note, the cap can despense it faster then the HO alt can. caps only provide current for split seconds. that will not help your electrical system.

Can you explain to me what the difference between a mono amp and a 2 channel amp and the rockford's t10001bd amp will be able to power both subs? sorry for all these dumb question im still very new at this car audio.

thanks

a mono amp is usually more effiecient. a 2 channel amp isn't really a good choice for subs because you don't want them in stereo, so you want to bridge the amp. you can run as many subs as you want to a mono amp. the 2 subs will split the rms watts.

I read all through that thread and I have come to a conclusion. That a cap is to be included in the power wireing. Not added to make something better, it is needed in addition to the big 3 and all.

Think of this, my Mark VIII has 4 corner air suspension. At each corner is a small air tank connected to the air compressor. During travel, when the air bag loses some of its air, the air tank blows air back into the bag instantly, then the compressor airs up the tank. Now if we look at the cap logically, then we can think of the cap giving the electrical system that extra boost when the system is experiencing an overbearing draw, then the alternator recharges the cap for the next big hit.

If my logic is somewhat off, please forgive me. I was just trying to put it in laymans terms.

that is all...

it's pretty acurate. most people use caps to help out on a poor electrical system, which they don't help. it should go proper wire guage>big 3> HO alt> new battery(s)> cap
