where to buy wooden dowels for box bracing?

Home Depot would be a good start or Lowe's or Sutherland's or whatever you have handy there in San Jose.

Hobby shops have 'em as well sometimes.

As to department I wouldn't have a clue. Home Depot is like a big toy store to me now that I am grown and I usually end up wandering around aimlessly everytime I go seemingly...

Lowe's sells them in the building materials section in a "box". There are various sizes with colors to represent the size. We carry both oak and poplar (not popular, like some idiots think).

In my store, there are on ailse 54. Your store may vary, but should be in the around the #2 wood such as 1x2s and 1x4s and such.

Edit:

For the 2" version, it may be a better idea to check the isle with the moulding. Ask for the millwork department. It is where they sell doors and windows, yet this same department covers moulding.

ok...i'll check it out then...thanx

also, this is my box design (i know the drawing is shltty) its 8.xx cubes @ ~35 Hz:

i am planning on doing two dowels from top to bottom and two from back to front, one on each side of the port.....do u think the top to bottom is overkill?.....should i do all 4 or just the two going front to back??

From my understanding, allthread is better for bracing

depending on your setup sometimes the threaded rod sticking on the outside of your box can make for some mounting issues. this is why i like the wooden rod. doesn't effect the outside of the box at all.
