Where should I expect to set the x-over points for RE XXX 6.5s?

I'm looking to buy the final piece of my setup: the subs. And I don't know what kind of frequency range I should really concentrate on: I mean duh, the lowest but I was trying to decide whether to go with 2 8s 1 10 or 1 12 and I can't decide... I'm really trying to stay under 250 cost for the subs themselves, and I've only got 300rms that I care to push to them (not an spl guy). Just wondered Where should I expect my subs upper response to lie (in hz) so that it will overlap the response from my low mid bass XXXs

well the XXX are 2 ohm, so I can do 2 or 4, although I really prefer to run my midbass in stereo, so preferably I would get a sub with dual 2 ohm voice coils that I could amp separately (I believe this exists, Help me out there) or I could get two two ohm 8s (maybe 10s but who wants 2 150rms tens). Alternatively, though less desireable I can amp my xxx in series and run a single sub at 4 ohm. Of course, then, my mid-bass is mono... Keep in mind though, that that wouldn't really be the end of the world because the xxx are going in the rear doors, so upfront, I'll still have full stereo. Alrighty... that's the whole story on the impedence

The LP filter on your sub(s) will be dictated, for the most part, by the xover setting you have for your mids (HP). Hence your question.

How low your xxx mids will extend is dependant on more than one thing. How much power to them, how loud do you turn it up, even the type of music you listen to can affect it. 80hz is generally a safe bet. you may go abit lower (as low as 60hz), you may go abit higher (as high as 100hz) but thats usually a good starting point. From there, try adjusting your HP filter on your mids lower and lower, until you start experiencing distortion/bottoming out/whatever, then back it off abit. That should give you a good idea where to set the sub.

youre just going to have to play with xover settings. at different volumes or playing different songs, you could get away with setting the hpf lower etc etc

it also depends on how your doors are treated. if they are sealed off and deadened properly, the will most likely be able to play lower than untreated doors.

Yeah, I don't think that these XXX are ever going in my doors...the mounting depth is pretty sick, I'm goin to build some kicks for them over christmas break from vandy... I may have to install them at an angle at the corners of the seats, and it'll throw off the imaging a little but I think that it'll be worth it and look nice and I'm looking forward to it... Besides if it sucks... I can build more. Fiberglassing projects are like playday!

xxx 6.5's in kicks? I hope you know how to do aperiodic setups then, otherwise there is no way in hell you'll get decent low-end response from those drivers. They are meant to be placed in [relatively] large sealed enclosures, or run BP. Stuff those xxx's in tiny sealed kick pods and you can forget about all that wonderful excursion they offer.

Put them in the doors, find a place to fit enclosures for them, or dont use them. Id really hate to see a faulty install lead to a faulty review of these drivers.

x2.

sacrafice some looks on your doors and get some MDF rings for those big *** magnets. otherwise go a different route. personally, i couldnt be happier with the RE series components. mids offer some awesome midbass to midrange.
