Where does the term "QUAD" come from?

ever since i can remember dealing with car audio stuff ive always heard the word 'quad' used to describe a system that made music sound really really good. It's usually used in this context:

"yeah i heard jim's system, that shet quads like a mofocka"

Only use of "quad" in car audio that I know of is refuring to quad (4) coil. Other then that I've never heard anyone use "quad" to describe car audio..

i know exactly what he's talking about. all the arrogant black dudes around here (there is a select group) use the word 'quad' all the time.

I never cared enough to ask them what the fk they were talking about since i couldnt understand the rest of their "speech"

I have often wondered about the origins of that term as well. I had a customer come in last week asking if we could "make his car quad". Apparently we did, because when he picked up his car he kept saying "DaMMMN that shIt is quadding, Yo".
