What's wrond with my DD?

how is that mm4000 treating you i loved that thing
well originally i was going to run 2 9512 with it but i gave one away. Like you see on this post its beating up my single 12. havent had any problems with it as of now. Hey by the way does your mom or someone related to you work for a hospital?

No i thought 3k was a good number for a 9512G. and if the box is tuned to 40hz i play whatever music on it. No matter what music i play it still smells but the rubbing of the coil is what bothers me because on really low volumes is when i hear it. Any other good subs that will outperform this sub that i can consider getting instead of this one or should i just beat it up till it burns then send it in for repair?

Too big of a box and too much power.
/thread.
DD recommends a 2.6 cu ft box for the 9512. They also recommend 52 sq in of port to tune to 40 hz. Mine is pretty close to that. How is the box too big and too much power? ill build another one and tune it to 35 hz using reaudios website to help out with all the calculations. Will this matter? a box should be a box regardless of who recommends the box design right? or should I build it using DD box designs?

If you are going to put 2 times the R.M.S. to a sub you need to shrink the box to compensate for the increased wattage.

You're pushing too much power for that box to be the best choice.

If you plan on keeping that much power to it (I wouldn't), then you'll have to shrink the box down.

I've used a 9510, 9512, and a 9515 in both daily and SPL oriented setups, so I would take my opinion pretty seriously.

But even with that said, if you are making the sub smell, then you are probably pushing it too hard anyways and will burn a coil up regardless of the box you put it in.

Make sure your gains are set properly so you aren't sending a clipped signal.

The bottom line is I think you are feeding the sub too much power, no matter what enclosure you put it in.

Any other sub out there than can take the abuse? or maybe i can switch to a 2 woofer set up to divide the power to both of them. what about the btl's? i would just love a tc sounds lms ultra 15 but i cant afford that right now!

2 woofers would be the better way to go if you can swing it. You get the added benefit of more cone area while not pushing each sub as hard. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

1.75^ft (2) 8" or (1) 12" 28.0 sq" vent x 21.5" long tunes to 40Hz +/-

2.00^ft (2) 8" or (1) 12" 32.0 sq" vent x 21" long tunes to 40Hz +/-

2.25^ft (2-3) 8" or (1) 12" 36.0 sq" vent x 21" long tunes to 40Hz +/-

2.50^ft (3) 8" or (2) 10" or (1) 12" 40.0 sq" vent x 21" long tunes to 40Hz +/-

2.75^ft (3) 8" or (2) 10" or (1) 12" 44.0 sq" vent x 20.5" long tunes to 40Hz +/-

You are on the large side and have to much port. Do the 2.5 or 2.25 box. You could also be clipping some.

but if you look at the specs for the 9512 it gives you different numbers. it gives you 2.6. im gonna keep my options open or just make another box or try to find another pair of woofers maybe to droop in there but i cant have anything that will take up too much space as of right now i cant go much bigger than the current box. maybe a pair of 10's would work. Im just not really convinced about the sound of 10's. never had them
