What's wrond with my DD?

Well i got a 9512G and for some reason it smells really bad when I play it real loud. I saw something on the forum about that's normal and nothing will happen. When played at low volumes you can also hear a little weird noise like something is rubbing. Worried it might be a coil that the sub is not set properly. Its getting about 3k from an autotek mm4000 right now. Any info would be appreciated. I dont want to burn it but if its going to happen i would rather it happen now cuz DD takes a long time to returned them fixed.

i got them used from a friend that didnt even push them that hard. he had 2700 to a pair of 9512. they sat in my closet for the longest time until about 3 months ago they were taken out and installed. So what's next? is it gonna burn? I would rather have it burn now rather than when i go on vacation and play my music for a long time and then burn then. cuz ill be out of the country and i wont have a spair woofer.

What are the specks on the box?

Have you checked to make sure the box is not cracked?

My friend runs two Earthquake dbxi 12's and you always smell voice coil out of them but they don't burn up. /shrug

Whenever I smell voice coil in my car I just keep going till I hit my stereo shop to get another set of subs...

Could be the glue burning off coil. did you get new or used? my buddy's BTL had same problem but then after he broke it in it stopped.

too much power melting the glue off? could cause a short if it gets too warm...

Very true dak i didn't wire it up for em mikeyb did but i think he fixed it for em. Now he's bumpn no problems.

i believe the box is about 2.75 cu ft before the woofer is in and tuned to about 40 hz. i thought it was the glue burning off because they were never even broken in. the rubbing of the coils is what worries me.

Your box is tuned to 40hz, correct?

Are you playing the hell out of it on songs such as Late Night Tip or Put On and other songs that have low 30's/high 20's notes in there? That could be part of the problem, if so.
