You do bring up an excellent point however, weather you are building a 4 cylinder or an 8 cylinder- you are optimizing what you have. It is a love for cars that drives both sides. I currently have a 5.0 in my Cougar that is creeping towards 400H.P. However, I also have a 2.0 in my Ford Probe that is pushing 250H.P. Both of these cars were the same ammount of fun to build. While I have always been more of a V8 guy, what most of us do not realize, is that the import scene is on to something here- performance wise(styling is another story). It takes a good deal of work to churn out 500 H.P. from a 4 cylinder, the same could also be said about a V8. The ammount of money spent on each would largely differ- however, that aside- I firmly believe that a lot of the V8 crowd does not realize that if they put the same ammount into thier cars as the import crowd does, then they would likely be near the 1,000H.P. As much as an old cliche' as it is, facts are facts, there is no replacement for displacement. Relating to engine design- physics hold that statement true. However, when the person designing the engine knows physics well, there are ways to accomplish most anything.
The Imports Vs. Domestics battle is about as dull as the Ford Vs. Chevy battle.
There is no solid proof supporting either side, just a large collection of opinionated people who have nothing better to do. Thus making this whole bit nothing more than a moot point.
When will people realize that weather you are building a 5.0 Mustang or a 1.8 CRX, you are building it, because you like cars.
Some people that think they are more mature then these "kids" out here as well, have alot of growing up to do themselves. i do know alot of teenagers that play their stereo at respectable volumes, and as soon as someone hears one little noise come from the car they get the piggies called on them. A-holes will always be around, but some of these die-hard SQ people, or people that just hate the idea of systems in general, just take it too far sometimes. I think people make a bigger problem out of it soemtimes then what it actaully is. And some people just need to stop *****ing about stuff. lata
I am an active competitor in the IASCA / USAC 601+ SQ Expert Class. Within this power range, my system is quite capable of being loud, and also sounding good.
However, as you pointed ou within your first few lines, there is a time and place for everything. Thus, the loudness of my system is only put into use at Competitions or Events, where it is legal. Notifying police of noise polution in general is everyones right under the law. No one should be forced to hear your bass. This especially holds true for when you are trying to sleep, when you have a sick child, on an important phone call, or even in an effort to keep your dogs quiet so that they do no disturb your neighbors even more than the excessive bass allready has.
So kindly tell me, in what way is abiding by the law taking it too far?
take it easy,
