What's too much power to give to a sub?

I just recently purchased a used Eclipse 88100 Aluminum and the wattage is rated at 500 watts RMS and max is 1000 watts RMS. Would an amp that's rated at 900 watts RMS @ 2 ohms be too much power and if it is, what's the max RMS watts should I give the sub?
Thanks for the advice.
well if u set gain low and don't turn hu past 80% volume, don't use bass boost anywhere, don't use preset eq's then u can but also depends how used it is surround could go just from being old.. that sais i'm running 930 rms to a 600 rms $75 pioneer sooooooooooo..

That's some good solid power for the sub. Make sure it's dvc d4. Also what kind of enclosure is the sub in? Ported? Sealed? Sealed it'll take that power no problem and less box rise. If ported, it'll yield more bass have more box rise and more than likely bottom out if it's pushed beyond its limits. If so, turn the gain down a lil less.

Thanks. Surround actually looks good. Per the seller, it was kept hidden inside the closet in it's original box which I have. As far as HU volume, I don't go that high. Usually just around 25-30%. As far as turning the gain low, how is the bass on it? I'm not that great at tuning the amp. I have been reading up on how to tune an amp, but I still do have to use the bass boost a little to get that extra kick, but I usually have the knob turned around a quarter or so.

i assume u know thats usually a sealed box sub not ported right?
Yeah, I know. Was debating on whether to go the route of a custom sealed box at 1 cubic foot or just go the route of a sealed prefab box.

Yeah, it's a DVC 4. Going w/ a sealed but most likely going the route of a prefab at the moment until I can save up for a custom sealed box at 1 cubic foot. That's what I've been reading as far as the sweet spot for this sub.

Augh prefab. We all cringe when that word gets brought up...because custom will sound so much better.

You really gotta ask bruh? Because every single thread....you have to brag about your 100 dollar set up. Like it's a diamond in the rough.

Yeah I know. But kinda low on funds since I keep buying stupid sh*t and when I ask around on how much it would be for a custom sealed box, minimum is around $350, which unfortunately I don't have the funds for right now. If I was to go ahead and purchase the custom box, I'm afraid of what the wifey will do to me. I'm afraid I might wake up the next day and be like John Wayne Bobbitt lol!!!

350 is too much for 1 sealed enclosure. If it were me, see if you can find someone on CL or Offerup. There's several people that advertise custom enclosures in my state, within some miles that do that and they may charge you FAR less than the shops charge.
