way to bring a gun on airlines these days //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I have a trip planned soon and know security is stricter than it was a few years ago...but Im trying to figure out the best way to bring my peace with me...I dont know if breaking it down into smaller parts will work or not ...Its a Polymer bodied Taurus Judge...

Two separate lock boxes. One for your unloaded gun and another for your ammunition. Just check with the airline that you are flying with though. American Airlines won't allow guns at all, so keep that in mind!

Also, by lock boxes, I recommend Pelican cases with the steel reinforced security feature.

I was looking at the Pelican boxes...I dont need it while I'm on the plane...just might need it at my destination...

you'd be better off shipping it to your destination.
Do they metal detect or xray the luggage ? Or just the person when they are boarding a plane ? Im not gonna have anything on me...but I wasnt sure how they looked at baggage these days...plus I was gonna have it broke down in parts...so it will need reassembly once I get to where Im going...no ammo either...

Per TSA

The column in the NO or OK are for Carry-On Luggage and the other for Checked in, I just pasted it here and it didn't follow format.

Ammunition - Check with your airline or travel agent to see if ammunition is permitted in checked baggage on the airline you are flying. Small arms ammunitions for personal use must be securely packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition. Ask about limitations or fees, if any, that apply. Read our Firearms & Ammunition section. NO OK

BB guns NO OK

Compressed Air Guns (to include paintball markers) - Carried in checked luggage without compressed air cylinder attached.

NO OK

Firearms - firearms carried as checked baggage MUST be unloaded, packed in a locked hard-sided container, and declared to the airline at check-in. Read our Firearms & Ammunition section. As defined by 49 CFR 1540.5 - "A loaded firearm means a firearm that has a live round of ammunition, or any component thereof, in the chamber or cylinder or in a magazine inserted in the firearm."

NO OK

Gun Powder including black powder and percussion caps NO NO

Parts of Guns and Firearms

Pretty good advice. Always a good idea to check with your carrier before your flight but simple rules are.

Checked baggage only and it will be checked by TSA with you present in almost 100% of the cases. Hard sided lockable container for fire arm and the plastic shell storage or original ammunition carrier. Always declare at the counter. always MAKE SURE THE FIRE ARM AND CLIPS OR SPEEDLOADERS ARE EMPTY AND THE AMMUNITION AND FIRE ARMS ARE IN SPERATE CONTAINERS. I have used the plastic cases pistols come in when they are purchased and just wrapped a cable lock around the handles but can't go wrong with one that you can put a TSA approved luggage lock on.
