whats the difference is sound?

my friends bass its like bass you could hear from the out side of the car and mine is just shaking the car from the outside I was wondering why this is. is this cause his might be playing at higher hz I think his box might be tuned higer than mine?

One thing I seem to notice, are your subs sealed and his ported? I don't know if its true, but ported boxes always seem to be heard from further away...they do in my car at least

no really i find you can hear systems with more harmonic distortion louder from the outside...
