What's the deal with sloooww USB loading??

My very old Kenwood head unit is on its last days and it's time to move up to something else. For quite a while I've been wanting to get a head unit with USB capability, but from what I've been hearing and seeing for myself, the USB drives load speed is painfully slow.

My plans were to pack all my music into a 64 gb drive, but from what I've seen, that would probably take forever to load.

Are all head units, regardless of quality slow?

Most kenwoods of old are amazingly slow, now a days kenwood, pioneer, jvc are very fast. I haven't done a 64 yet but with a 32 load within seconds for the most part.

Just make sure you get a USB drive with a high read-speed.
