Whats the actual difference in pre out voltage

as I was saying, if you are just trying to annoy your neighbors then it will not be important but it does generally allow you to turn the gain down on the amp, which will result in less hiss. Evry audo system has noise of some kind or another - the question is: can you hear it. Most of the SQ guys went to fiber to break the copper link so there is no ground loop issues between the head unit and the amp/processors in the back.

I would not make a HU purchase choice based on 4v vs 2v outputs.

on my old setup i went from a 2.5v to a 4v and it was a night and day difference on clean, loudness power.

The difference would be attributed to the QUALITY of the preamp section .. not the actual output voltage. Many people that say they hear a difference in CD players can also be attributed to the analog portion of the D/A, not the digital part itself.
