Here's why I prefer an oscope: it teaches you, you understand more. I don't necessarily have anything against a DD-1, have never used one, and have seen videos (whether they were accurate tests or not I don't know) where the DD-1 lit up at or extremely close to the oscope. But if you are using an oscope, you tend to understand what the hell is going on with your system, how turning different knobs affect your signal, and have a better understanding of music in general. This isn't always the case, I'm sure some people only looking for that clipped peak and nothing else, but it can be a valuable tool. I try to stay away from "idiot lights" as much as possible. I feel like people that try to actually dive deep into it like that are a dying breed.
