Thanks for the heads up, I'll check them out. By now, I figured this guy's been through about a system a week, from all the threads and post's I've read by him.

Watch the local Craigslist postings if you want to see (and maybe hear) the gear before you buy it. Metro areas generate huge amounts of posts to the electronics category so use the Search blank with sub, subs and subwoofer to drag up those listings.

Subs in boxes usually go for $25-$200 with the middle of the range being typical. Some sellers will have an amp included or as a separate listing. Be patient as you wait for not only the good deal but also the right equipment. It will show up in time!

As for the gear you mentioned, $200 seems to be a typical value for what's being offered. There are some amazing bargains out there so if you're not in a hurry you can wait to see if you can save another $50-$75.

eBay also allows one to sort out sales in terms of locale so if you are close to a large city or in one, you can see what's up for auction that you could go drive and pick up. Subs are heavy and expensive to ship, so going the local route is a good idea just from that aspect.

Of course there's always what turns up here on this site's sales forum. The search engine works well. The question remains as to how good a seller on a forum is compared to a rated seller on eBay or one you see in person but if a seller has good refs and a good amount of time here on the site, the probabilities are good you'll do well. You may also want to check to see who's posting in the forum that is close by so you can do an eyeball check and avoid the shipping noid.
