What's happened?

OK say you have a speaker and it works, but then it starts to rattle. When you push the cone in, you can hear scratching... but then it stops? is there a problem then?

Well, like it plays fine now... when i push it in, it doesn't do anything, plays fine.

ok, test for resistance or what, and how do i test them using a dmm?

when you are pushing on the cone the "stratching" you are hearing is prolly the coil rubbing from you pushing on the cone. get a dmm and measure to see if there is any resistance. if it is a 4 ohm coil, it should measure around 4 ohms

well it doesn't scratch anymore... it did, then it stopped... right now when i push it in, it doesn't scratch -- like a normal speaker.

maybe your not pushing on the same spot? the coil doesn't rub everywhere you push the cone. is the speaker working properly?

listen buddy. if you push on the cone, you are going to push it out of alignment unless you do it just right so its going "inwards" perfectly.

if you push on one side, its going to tilt the suspension and rub the coil making that scratching sound. its quite normal.

now ****in stop it lol.

play some music to it, free air it if you have to, and listen carefully. if it sitll makes scratching noises, then your speaker is on the road to destruction.

lol ight I'll ****ing stop it... it plays fine in free air, no scratchy sound and when tested with a dmm it read like 3.7 ohms... and it is a 4 ohm speaker.
