whats a thinner wood that is as strong as mdf?

I guess I can double baffle and cut into my cubic feet. I just want to flush mount the sub, kind of hard to explain what I want to do above the sub. I need it as low as it can go so i can mount a grille cover above it to protect the sub. It has a 1.5" excersion from what splaudio is saying. I am going to double baffle above it to but it will be a 12" grille cover so the top mdf will be 1.5" a over the sub.

The floor panels in the aircraft I work on are made of some honeycomb laminate stuff, a 3x4ft panel weighs a few pounds or so..its only about 3/8" thick..
how much for a sheet of that??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
