What would you say is the best component set for the money?

i'd have to say the OZ Audio Matrix Elite 3 way componets...for the money if you want absolute tonal quality they can't be beat.....

Thats like 5x the budget //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

x2. get the silk tweeter too. i have the silk and if the highs were any louder i might not like it lol.
mine finally broke in, i got the silk tweeters as well and i turned the crossover to -3 db and the highs are great now. I don't think i need to upgrade components for a long time now.

Such a hard question to answer. I would say the real answer is whatever set, at the price range, in which you like the most?

What I consider to sound great, you may actually hate. It's very subjective.

Ditching the pre-built component sets will net you far more value.
Yeah, but wouldn't he likely have to go active and spend a little more on a head unit or crossover. The primary value in components, at least in my opinion, is the passive crossovers and implied sonic matching.

Yep, but drop the passives on any of the sets mentioned and the drivers alone are literally worth half as much. You can buy the Polk SR's tweeters form Polk Audio for $120 or you can buy the Vifa XT25 for about half that. No they are not exactly the same, but they pretty much measure (thus will sound) almost the same. That's just one example.

Knowing this, we'd have to completely disregard personal sound preference and go off objective testing of the speakers themselves. A foreign concept to some, but once you understand what speakers can do for you, then selecting them becomes a lot easier. Asking people on a forum what they think the best sound for the buck is about as useful as asking what amp to use. You have to start with something, but perception is not a good one to go off of. Well, unless you keep your expectations extremely low...then you might be ok.
