What Would Sound Better, JL or Alpine?

So I would like everyone's opinion on my newest thought. What would sound better, four JL Audio W3D4 subwoofers running on an Alpine MRP-M2000 amplifier or one Alpine Type X subwoofer running on an Alpine MRP-M2000? You can assume that both would be in a ported enclosure, tuned to the same frequency.

thats irrelevent what the max is because it's a useless number, when you power a sub you go by it's RMS numbers, those numbers more acurately reflect how much power a sub can handle, max is usually an arbitrary value based off of conditions that have nothing to do with daily driving.

And TBH be more specific about what you want... do you mean which setup will be louder, or which will have better sound quality??

Type X is a sound quality sub although it can get relatively loud too

alright, well i figured that it handles 1500 rms and most of the reviews for it say that it always sounds like it wants more power, so i figured 2000 rms would work well, that's all.

and if there would be a difference between them, which setup would have better sq and which setup would have better spl?

my vote is 4 JL's over a single sub. my own personal experience is ive had numerous single 12" sub setups with 1000-1500rms running to them and none of them have been nearly as loud as my girlfriends 3 10's setup with only 600rms going to them. all systems in the same car as well. i have a 2005 civic, hers a 2004.

the only variable different in my situation is all setups were sealed... with the single sub setup you may find yourself maxing gains and pushing the single sub too hard trying to get it louder. with multiple subs you may have a little more flexibility...

Not to thread hijack but is the Type X not grossly under rated like the Type R is? Either way, there is no definitive answer to the OP's question so......

the type x is is rated at 1krms IIRC. i give mine more (obviously) but i'm sure that 2k would be too much. shoot for 1.2-1.5k and you should be golden. and go ported or GTFO

thanks for all your information. i think i am going to stick with the 4 jl's. now i just need to come up with an enclosure.
