What Would Happen if...

According to your diagram you were running it in series for a 4 ohm nominal impedance.

Therefore it leads me to believe that with the gain at max, you were already overpowering it by 100wrms per the amp's ratings, and add possible clipping into the equation... you are effectively increasing the heating effect even more. (square wave)

You simply killed the woofer by overheating it.

Edit: If you were only running 1 coil (850wrms @ 2ohms nom.) that sub wouldn't have lasted a day.

The voice coils aren't connected within the subwoofer itself right?

Because I ran power into the positive and out of the negative terminals on the same coil, while connecting the positive and negative terminals to each other on the other voice coil, all the current should have been running through one voice coil only, right?

Using only one of the two coils in a dual voice coil woofer will change the T/S parameters. There will effectively be less copper in the magnetic gap, so the BL (magnetic strength through the wire in the gap) will be less. Therefore the Qes will be less, and of course the Qts will be less. Adding resistance to connect the other coil will not help.

Huh? lol
