what works for you, not everybody else, you!

Having your amp at half gain doesn't mean you're getting half the power. I have my gains almost all the way down on my amps, but I'm still getting full power...the gain knob is not a volume knob.
Maybe that's how he's supposed to set it? My gain is at about half now too, 400 rms @ 4 ohms, and my target voltage is 40v. That's what I hit with a 40hz test tone, 3/4 hu volume, and no bass stuff.

You said "and that was only at half gain", like you were saying "imagine if I were getting the full 300 watts with the gain turned all the way up!"
Hell, if my amps were at half gain I wouldn't be able to turn my HU past 1/4 volume.
Yeah, I shoulda read that first. It looked like you knew what you were talking about, but confused me at the same time.

i myself would rather spend the money to have something that sounds good than penny pinch here and there to have an "ok" system,,oh and im in the 1000 watt daily driver club douche

Its not?....Sure as **** fooled me..what does the gain knob do then?

On the other hand, in most situations if you save a little bit more money, ie going from 400$ to 600$ for sub and amp and you will have a exponentially better sounding system.

I dont run a huge system, but if I can recommend that someone save a little more money to get something very good (both deal wise and customer service wise) then I am going to do that.

Indeed.

Matches output voltage of the preamplifier to the input voltage of the amp...not too difficult.
JimJ, I actually have a question about gain. I haven't set mine too high (or so I think).

But I really don't know how to set the gain knobs. At first I was told to turn it up, and slowly creep up 'till it sounded distorted, then turn the knob down a bit and that was good.

But something about that seems fishy and, well, f*cking retarded
