Looking at the 40" Samsung LNS4041D

or the 46" Sony KDF-46E2000 RP LCD

Going to be using it for Xbox360, about 50/50 HD/SD content, mostly sports, and DVD's. Eventually I may go to HD-DVD, so it's nice that they both have 2 HDMI inputs.

I can get them for about the same price. The size of the RP doesn't really bother me- while it would be nice to have a flat panel, it's not a necessity. I'm a little concerned about the bulb on the Sony, as most people say it will need replacement from anywhere from 2-5 years. I've heard the bulbs can be had for under $150 and are easily installed.

I went to my local BB and while I know the viewing conditions in there are far from ideal, I did like the picture on the Sammy. Black levels looked pretty good in spite of what everyone says about them on flat panel LCD's.

They had the Sony on display as well, but for some reason it was displayed about 8 ft. up on the wall, which didn't help me.

At maximum I'd like to stay around $1200, which is what I can currently find these available for online (both from authorized dealers).

Anyone have any input on either set?

Samsung...hands down.

Ask Matt281 what he thinks of his 42" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

He chose that over a mitsu and sony RP.

rear projection isnt very great...
ours says HDTV on it but thats a loose interpretation i think.
and how much did you pay for it ?

just like an lcd or plasma if its a cheapy tv its a cheapy tv and will look like doodo

me the sony will look better tehn the samsung

BUT if its gonna be in a room where your gonna be seating in an angle or if its a bright room then get the lcd.

Just got a flat screen HDTV Samsung 30". HDMI and everything it was 699 shipped.

Edit: nevermind you're looking for a bigger TV. Out of those two id go with the samsung.

Angle won't really be an issue, I can pretty much aim it wherever I want to.

The room doesn't get much light from the windows, it's a decently lit room though.

P.S.- Anyone know if Best Buy will pricematch from an authorized online dealer, like Vanns? They are an authorized Samsung dealer and have the Sammy for $1200 shipped.

samsung FTFMW...ive had mine for several months, and all of the flawless reviews are completely accurate, these are by far the best pictures on the market this year...of course thats my opinion...

Samsung hands down. If your looking into gaming though I would totally get the Samsung LNS4051D

It's by far the best gaming LCD Flat Panel. I don't ever recomend LCD projections. If the bulb goes out it's another $200!

Samsung is by far your best shot for gaming TVS. Also for your computer. I have my computer hooked up to mine.

I sell TV for a living, so if you have ne questions PM me. I would be happy to help.

i've had my 50'' Samsung DLP tv for over 3 years now, it is a true HDTV and the picture still looks as good as the day we got it

we also have a 32" Samsung LCD, they're both great

with much comparisons, Samsung was the best at the store

Sony was the best 10 years ago, now, they're just an overpriced TV brand

I am considering the 4051, but I really don't want to spend more then $1200...hell I don't want to spend more then $1000, but I know that's going to be hard to do.

I'm really leaning towards the Sony at this point...I can pick up the 46", with the Harmony remote, for $1150 to my door, from an authorized dealer. I can also add 3 years of bulb replacement for around $75 extra.
