I would really like to make a career either out of designing car audio components(passive crossovers, amplifiers, subwoofers) or installations. Where would be a good place to go to study these things, and what would be a major that is available?

I am looking at going to clemson and they have an "audio engineering" major but its in a liberal arts or something like that classification and i dont think that is what i am looking for. Does anyone have a general direction in where i should go?? I am sorry if this is confusing, but i think i got my point across.

Electrical engineering would be a good route to get into the design aspect of car audio equipment. Depending on the university, you can take some great classes to allow you to be able to design any of the things you mentioned and even more. It's a tough major and will more than likely take more than 4 years for your bachelors but the program is well worth it if you can stick it out. Taking an EE path and taking acoustical engineering electives can also be a good way of getting a large knowledge base for those careers as long as the university counts them as tech electives for your major.

x2.

An engineering degree will be well worth it. I haven't graduated yet, but am doing an internship with Toyota and love it. The degree will make your life much simpler.

Life after school that is haha. I've been going to school full time (12-18 hours a semester) and interning full time over the summers and it's taken me 6 years for my bachelor with only dropping one history class (14 hours that semester after I dropped it). It's been pretty tough for me and school has always been pretty easy but a few courses have really kicked my ***.

Electrical engineering has helped me understand a lot of different things about acoustics as energy is energy whether it's acoustical energy or electrical energy, the physics are still the same. I'm taking an analog filters course this semester and it's really cool learning how the circuits for time alignment, EQs, crossovers, and the like are designed and how they can be implemented across more than to just audio applications. I'm happy I chose electrical engineering as a major and I shouldn't have much of a problem getting jobs in the future with the degree under my belt, whether I choose to take an audio route or some other route.

I'm applying to the Naval Academy, hoping to go next year, and I'm looking into Electrical, Mechanical, or (the aviator side of me says) aeronautical. Any of them are going to be hard, and it's hard to choose because i'm really interested all of them. But if you know you want to do something in that category go for electrical and look for beneficial electives //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
