what to expect with two 15" Mags

i'm going from 1 15 Mag in a ported box(3.7 cf@27hz) off 1000 rms, to 2 15 Mags in a sealed box(4.6cf) off 1500 rms. Just waiting for the box to get finished. Not really used to hearing sealed boxes. So will i be gaining a lot more low end but the higher frequencies will be about the same? or will i have more output at an frequency? Anyone here gone from a sealed box to ported for a Mag or vice versa? any insight is appreciated

Personally I woudl have stuck to the single 15, but you will gain bandwidth with the dual sealed.

In terms of loudness to the ear, it might be close. But the 2 15 should obviously be louder.

Not sure if you will actually get any louder. Your saying you had a single 15 at 1000rms, and now you are going to 2 at 1500? Is that 1500 a piece, or to share. if it is to share, you may lose output actually. Generally speaking, from 2 sealed to one ported with the cumulative power of the 2 will yield about a 3 db gain. If you are going from 1-2, and losing about 250 rms, as well as going sealed. I hate to tell you this, but it is very likely you will loose output. However, if you do lose output, you will have one positive, and that will be fuller bass.

I wouldnt say that he is going to lose low end.

He is gonna lose the peak around tuning but defenitely gain better response in the 20 hz and lower range, and in the 60 hz and up range also.

I would try to get more power tho. 750 is a joke for a Mag, Im feeding my 12 around 1.8k right now, and its almost enough.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Well in ported, you have more advantage around the tuning peak, then it simply rolls off very steep below that. With sealed its more flat, so you lose the gain of the port, but you dont have a steep roll off below it either.

Sealed is for a more flat response. Like I said I would have stuck to the ported, since a boost around 20-50 hz is very desirable for me, and the front speakers can take over after that. Some people like midbass from a subwoofer, to give them that "punch" in the chest. I am not a big fan of that. I love low frequency resonance at extreme volumes, nothing like it.

The sub-sonics will be way better with the 2 15's sealed vs. the 1 15 ported, which is why im switching from 1 15 ava in 6.2 cubes tuned to 25 to 2 15's in around 5 cubes sealed. There is something about sealed that i just love. Ported subs rock but sealed is my bread and butter. I love the recreation of car doors being slamed from my subs. Who knows, when i get bored with them sealed i'm sure i'll end up porting both of them:).

well seeing how the Mag 15's are efficient i don't see how i will lose output. NOt only am i adding more cone area but more power as well. I would have stuck with just one 15 but i didn't want to run my amp at 1 ohm.I am only going sealed until i get my Yukon than i will go ported. As for more power, i thing two 15's sharing 1500 rms is more than enough for a daily driver.

When loyd answered your question a month ago, that should have been all the advice you needed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

However, after reading your question this time....you obviously didnt listen to anything he told you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

can you show me what he told me, i don't recall asking him about the difference from one 15 ported and two sealed. So don't talk unless you know what you're taling about. You really didn't have to come into my thread. I am just asking the difference i would hear between sealed and ported Mags. Like i mentioned never really dealt with sealed before. I did speak with Nick, however was checking to see if anyone else ran ported and sealed. So please gtfo

Dude, you really need to get the bug out of your ass All I see you post is negative crap... But good thing you helped him out in the thread... NOT

750 is more than enough for a Mag if you arent trying to get loud loud. It is a very efficent woofer and I doubt you are sending it 1.8kw...I'd imgine the coil would be hittin the back plate....even in a ported application. For that box I would say 2kw and no more for two Mags.
