What the..???

The caps in the amps should drain fast. They should not illuminate the LEDs for very long if at all. Sounds like you have another power source. Do you have dual batteries? Which battery did you disconnect the wires from? You only need to remove the ground wire from the battery for what it is worth.

 
Could it have something to do with the remote wire?
It shouldn't as long as the ignition is off and the remote wire is properly wired to begin with, but that is something to check for sure. He said he pulled power from the battery. That should kill the remote wire power as well.
