same thing happend with my image dynamics idqs i had. just got 2 jl audio 12w6v1s. wired them down to 1.5 ohm. put them in the box and when i have both of them hooked up its like there not responding, sounds muffed with little bass, then when i unhook one side and leave the other hooked up, they both start to hit hard. i dont get it. one subs hooked up but both of them move. there not hooked up together, wired in seperate chambers. anyone know what it could be. same thing happened with my idqs. could it be something with my amp?

I'm guessing amp too...

Wire them up for an overall impedance @ 6 ohms, (I'm guessing they're dual 6 ohm subs?), and see if that will work, if so, ur amp just isn't stable at that impedance.

You might have 1 of your subs crossed...

... if you unhooked 1 sub, i doubt that it's playing that just air moving the sub. If you was to press that speaker in firmly, it wouldn't pop back on you.

My suggestions:

Make sure your Phase is on 0

Take each sub out and make sure that they aren't crossed in wiring.

... 1.5 isn't really a stable ohm, but it would make your subs do that...

heres a pic of one sub. the other one is wired the same on both sides as well
