What subs should I get?

Im starting to get into car audio, I have been around it along time and always wanted a system of my own. I already have a Pioneer DEH-P5800MP hu and a Memphis 16-MCD1000 amp which I believe is 1Ohm stable with 1100 rms. I want to go with an spl system but still want it to sound good so that puts me inbetween. What do u guys think I should do for subs, i'm trying to only spend about 400-500. I should also mention im driving a 99 Chevy Malibu.

look in to fi. some older re. or u can juss get a couple type r's 4.0 cubs if u can even fit that in the malibu and tune it to 34?

Just an idea but what kink of sound would 2 12" kicker cvx's be like? Would I need a ported box or not? Thanks for your help.

emmm.. go with a type r, one 12 in a ported box will be killer. My freind has one in his 626 tuned to around 32 and it peaks around 42 htz so.. and type r's are really good quality subs and are good for the money. You can pick them up off of ebay for as low as 130 brand new...or of course go to best buy and pay 225+tax..your choice

kicker cvx's are good for the price.. go with a ported box around 4 cubic feet if you dont need a trunk.

Why not 2 type R's? I'm not saying they are bad subs but i was at Best Buy and listened to 2 type R's and they didnt sound good. They might not have been in the right size box or maybe they wernt being push by much. Just saying what I heard so you guys who know more than me can give me your opinion. Whats better the cv's or type r's? I dont ever use my trunk. Edit: I read that the type r's are power starved so im not so sure if the amp I have would push 2 12's to their full potential.

Let me make sure I have this clear, I know this is a real noobish question but u have to learn somewhere. The amp I have pushes 1100 at 1 ohm stable. When u hook 2 subs up to it it divides the wattage equaly right? So I would have 550 going to each sub. In order to get a 1 ohm load do i need dual 2 or 4 ohm subs?
