I have jl xr650 csi running in my car, my bro has jl zr650 csi in his. I played the same song in both cars and the sound was much crisper and detailed with the zrs. Are the zrs that much better then the xrs? I'am disappopinted with sound. Will the cross over make a difference?

I want to replace my front speakers with 6.5" comps. I have jl 300/2 amp and would like a set of comps to run from this amp. What other speakers/brands can compare with the jl audio zr650 csi that will fit my doors? I have heard of focal speakers sounding spot on but not know much about the company. Have e46 coupe bmw.

I think the ZR's are tight tolerance or matched tweeters... since you have heard them and like them, that would be the best way to go.

If you are trying to save some money, you could try Cerwin Vega V-max-65, but I can't guarantee they would sound better on all counts.

I've heard every line of JL comps and all failed to impress me. Of course, this was in a sound board, so I have zero in-car listening experience. I'd second the alternatives Gary and Tbayz1 mentioned, as it never hurts to comparison shop when planning to make such an expenditure.

I'm running full JL XR's and they sound fantastic. The ZR's are going to sound nice as they are the big brother of the XR's. Like mentioned...if you listened to them and like them...then go with them. Everyone's listening/preference is different. We can tell you this and that sounds good but it might not please your ear's. It is highly recommended to listen to them before buying them. Generally a car audio shop has an employee that has what they sell in their vehicle. They are more than willing to demo it to you as the sound board and vehicle is different sounding.

i've had a fair amount of experience with the ZR's... great sounding speaker. however, in the same vehicle with similar power feeding them, the boston Z6's sound waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the ZR's and don't cost much more... it is worht the extra hundred bucks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i had an 02 jetta with the boston Z6's, boston GT22 to the woofers and a GT20 for the tweeters, and did an extensive install in an 03 jetta using the jl ZR's, with a 450/4. the Z's had way more depth of sound, significantly more midbass, smoother tweets, and a more 'natural' sound, for lack of a better term. the ZR's sounded great, don't get me wrong, but sounded 'hollow' compared to the boston's. everything was placed in stock locations, with no sound deadening in either vehicle (though the VW's don't really need it... if you ever pull a door panel off one you'll see why //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )

for my money, it's the bostons. however, the new C5's do look very interesting as well.
