Hey got a 12 re se xxx, and wanting something with more SPL than that. Running off a hifonics bx1500D, in a slot ported box about 2.5 Cu FT, tuned to 32 hz, in a hatchback. Assuming all other unmentioned variables stay the same, what sub can I directly swap out with that se xxx, and make it louder. I don't really wanna upgrade my amp although that is an option, as I have heard these can take more wattage. But I'm gonna be running it daily not just as at a competition for a few minutes. I've seen some pretty impressive subs out there, orions, soundsplinter subs look pretty tempting:yumyum: , eclipse titanium looked pretty good, but wattage wise it is only 750 rms. What do you guys reccomend just to get my SPL louder. Thanks a lot-Sampson

Type R does. TOMMYk1990 HAD THE SEXXX and the sx and sexxx was louder than sx, SX couldnt handle the power, and the R walked them both //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I'm sure that every stereo owner and every install on the PLANET has had the exact same results. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

I'm going with audioholic on this one. Work with what you have. The SE XXX is an incredible woofer.

i dont think i read anywhere that he said it would. he acutally stated just how TommyK's setup worked out.

I think I'm gonna go with audioholics suggestion and pull that sub out, and then stick a dremmel in there and cut away some of the port. Its about 10" long or so, think I'll take off about 2" and see how that sounds. The box is likely going to be tossed anyway as fiberglass is nearing completion. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. No reason not to play with it a bit. Thanks for the posts guys. -Sampson

Don't just guess at the tuning, take a few minutes to research it via a program like WinISD. It can be downloaded at http://www.linearteam.dk/

You need to keep in mind raising your tuning frequency is going to mean losing some bottom end, and probably over all sound quality. For this reason I would inch up on the tuning you want. Also remember to adjust your SSF accordingly. Good luck and keep us posted. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what puts more output the a sexxx. i think the xxx would woudnt it. haha. alright this is jonny quiray who just emailed u about the sub. ill trade u my hcca 15 if ur interested and box. U live near seattle. im in shoreline. shoot me up a respnse on caraudio and maybe we can work something out. ill throw in a lil cash to

No problem man wil go by inches then, but I'm curious is there any quick method to determine the tuning on a fiberglass box. I'm going to have to go with a round port and figure I'll just get a really close guess on inside box diameter, then go from there with winisd, but was wondering if there was any tricks or facts to remember. So what your saying is by cutting the port down smaller it is going to raise the tuning from say 32 to 45, then up from there every inch I take off. Or is it going to decrease it to 28... then 20 etc.. I'd DL that program (and thanks for the link) but I'm at college right now and can't. Thanks for your posts man-Sampson

Could 2 15" Type R's handle 600 each? Are they any sort of a SQL woofer?...Any opinions would help....

I have been out of this a while and didnt know that the Type R was actually coming back into being a popular sub...

Thanks for the help...

The shorter you cut the port, the higher it will raise the tuning freq (35 to 40, 40 to 45, etc).

For tuning a fiberglass enclosure, the hardest part is determining the inner volume, since its usually an odd shape (hence using fiberglass). If I were you, I would simpoly use something like styrofoam popcorn to fill the enclosure, then transfer that popcorn to a known sized space to measure it (like a 5gallon bucket etc). Once you determine the enclosure's inner volume (minus the space the sub will take up), its a simple matter of knowing the port area you are going with. Then a program like WinISD will be able to give you the proper length for a specific tuning frequency, given that enclosure volume and port area.

DL WinISD as soon as you can (its free). Its an invaluable tool for the DIY box builder.

You actually missed out on their peak popularity. Team Phat Hertz was pimping them like nobody's business. They are good subs. Just noone cared for a certain group of individuals who claimed that they are capable of more than what you'll ever get out of one in real life.

Definitely more SPL oriented than SQ. They'll take oodles of power, as long as it's clean. I've heard of single Type Rs takine 1500 daily, and I've heard of them blowing under their normal 500 RMS. It's all in the install. 600 works well, just don't clip it.
