WHAT??! MY RSD's crapped out

last week i installed my rsd's and hooked up my mtx amp to power em.. when i 1st installed em there was soem engine whine, so i grounded the RCA's and the noise went away.. THey sounded wonderful after that, the prob was fixed!!

Well yesterday mid-song i started hearing a Crackle out my driver side tweet, i turn it on Mute, and there is a **** Engine whine out the damm drivers tweet.. i get to my location thinkin my rca gound bumped loose.. rip my dash out and its still there, so i peel back some wire and figure 8 the Wires in my rcas and hook it all back up...

i start the car and a godawful squeel is peelin out the tweets and all of a sudden they stop producin anything. i kill the car, and try to rewire the ground.. and crank it back up... Nothin out the tweets, the drivers side midbass has engine whine in it (BAD) and the passenger side has a fluttering blown sound.. i dont know wuts happenenin.. the amp was 1/2 gain, crossovers set, filters set.. and all of a sudden (A WEEK LATER) it starts actin up, then they crap out over an rca issue.. I just bought the dam rca's

How much RMS were you giving them?

I have had mine for well over a month and not one problem, but have just 75rms to each side.

I have a ground issue as well, but is my pitco fuse or whatever in my deck. So I can ground it, but I go over some bumps and bam right back. Sucks, but is my deck.

Good luck and I love my set. Hopefully it is something simple.

i was giving em 60w each.. my mtx amp is 50 rms, birthed 60.. Anyways, it very well could be my deck.. i had PG Octane 6.5s running off the HU and the pass side had a hiss in the tweet.. i got sick of that so i put in the rsds and amp, i fixed the initial prob and it came back with a vengence (so 2 speak) and ended up f'n my tweets up and now my pass side midbass is soundin like shit... amp was 1/2 gain and faded to the front equally.. sounded nice for a week.. now it sounds weak.. my 6x9s kick *** now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Hook up an ipod as the input to your amp. Don't go through the head unit. Just use a 1/8th to RCA cable and use the headphone output on the ipod. Start at zero volume and move the volume up. If it sounds fine you know you've got a problem ahead of the amp, in either the head unit or the interconnects. If it doesn't work, you know you've got a problem downstream of the amp, but you haven't ruled out additional problems at the headunit.

Simple test, only thing you have to do is pop the RCAs out of the amp instead of dicking around disconnecting everything. Make sure your headunit is on so the amp sees the remote turn on signal.

Your crossover could have burnt up, not likely (Since most crossovers have a fusible link), but not completely unlikely. Could also be the amp that took the dump, unless it is also on the 6x9's and they work fine? Like I said, hook them up to a different source (other than the amp) and do process of elimination. If they still sound like crap/don't work properly after running them on just the head unit, try to get run them without the crossovers.

BAD IDEA

Don't do that unless you have another way to manage the crossover frequencies. If you hook them up without any high pass filter on the tweeters you will ruin them. Tweeters do not like low frequencies.

i can turn the amp up/down and notice a difference in the midbass woofs.. just the tweets aint workin no more, and that **** whine is killin me!!

i dont think the amp crapped

2) when the tweets worked, i could unhook them from the cross and they would stop/start

3) i wil try em on the HU, but i Honestly dont know what was up..

I think its 1 front channel of my HU causing the noise.. it doesnt even cut out on MUTE.. i dinno why 1 midbass would blow, the other continue 2 whine, and both tweets die.. faulty mids?? But my old tweets hissed

Are you running a Pioneer deck?

I don't know what it could be. If your amp is working on the 6x9's, then should be fine if it is a 2 channel. Are you running 2 or 4 channel amp for highs? If 4, might be one of the channels. Shit, it could be so many things. Sucks, I know. Been there done that.

Well, it's too late if you think the tweets and possibly a mid are blown...but it does sound like the HU could have caused the wierd noises..dont know if that would cause them to blow though.

Not to be a dick, but what were you guys expecting with $100 speakers.

Also, if you are saying its too late b/c the tweeters are blown, why are you even bothering asking about it?

they arent workin anways
Are you ****ing kidding me? If they are blown they are blown. Hooking them up without a crossover won't suddenly make them work. If they are okay now, hooking them up without a crossover will damage them.

The only thing you can do by removing the crossover is **** up tweeters that aren't already broken.

If the crossover is the problem (which it probably isn't or you would not have had the strange sounds like alt whine) then you need to get another crossover of some sort, not take impatient shortcuts.
