What kind of screws do you use?

I am about half way done with my box and ive been using 1 1/4 inch screws with a phillips head. I can not countersink the screws because the bit slips so much. I even tried predilling with a bigger drill bit and the the screws just spin freely once there all the way in. What kind and size of screws does everyone else use? And once i carpet the box will the non countersunk screws be very noticeable?

they're nasty little screws with some serious attitude... they're made for wonderboard, which is like drywall, except it's made of concrete. Once you put them buggers in, they are going nowhere.
i have the same ones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i love em

I think he means to put together the box, not to mount the speaker.

You could buy a countersink tool, so when you predrill the holes they will already be countersunk for the screws. I use regular 1.25" coarse drywall screws and it works fine.

1 5/8" Drywall screw with phillips head.

If your screws are spinning freely once they are screwed in, try drilling a slightly smaller pilot hole for them. For the screws I use, it recommends a 1/8" pilot hole, but I go with like a 3/32, and never have any strip out.

Joking :p

personally I use drywall screws and glue when screwing mdf to mdf... most of the shit I build is fiberglass these days tho.

* drywall screws with a robertson head... but those might not be readily available in the states.

an easy (but time consuming) way to countersink is to take a much larger drill bit and turn the top of the holes by hand, after you predrill the screw hole obviously. as long as your bits are sharp that should be easy. just don't cut your fingers.

edit: i didn't realize how funny the words "screw hole" are
