What kind of paint do I use to get the "Black Chrome" look

If you can find the right color, any of these should work OK for you BUT they are designed to be painted from the back side of a clear body, and thats where the gloss comes in. If you are not painting a clear surface, you will need to find a clear coat to get it to gloss because without the clear, it is a dull finish!

just get teh window tint paint... clean the cones with paint thinner before you paint them

if you are talkin about the Black Chrome...like what they put on Rims... im pretty sure thats exactly what it is... Black Chrome... You'd have to send in your caps to a company that does it...probably wouldn't be cheap though, and it would Def. add weight to your cones....

I'd say go with the window tint paint...??? sounds like the most effecient way to do it.

jesus. you are all a bunch of super serious car audio freaks. i would not paint the cones on my expensive drivers. but its a little eclipse sub. prolly like $100ea tops.

just paint it man, whatever weight you add to the cone will be marginal at best and you will not notice any difference besides they look cooler.

do what you want, just make sure you do it the right way as sanding the cone will not be something i would like to do.

I had some xplods laying around and I painted them and the paint cracks and chips within the first 10 min of use. Just a warning.

use the model car tint paint, no need for sanding and will stick well, i think... adding weight...HA yeah im sure it will make a massive difference

do you really think an aluminum cone would flex? m not 100% sure just asking, but they do have paints with flex agents to paint urethane rubber so im sure your cone will be fine. good luck.

thats because your xpold's cones were made of crappy plastic that will flex... hence the paint cracking

this will not happen on his subs, they have an aluminum cone that is pretty strong

so i say you clean the cones with paint thinner, then spray them with the window tint paint (make sure you get the spary on kind)

Edit: and be very carfull with the paint... youve gotta put on light coats

I would really consider how often someone is going to see the driver and admire the paintwork. If it is a show car I can understand, but if this is for your own personal pleasure I would reconsider.

Use the smoke glass paint. Its a transparent paint that people use to smoke their taillights and such. If you spray a few light coats on chrome or aluminum it looks like black chrome.
