you left out HS grad with no higher education. So I can't vote.

I'm one of a hand full of managers at my company. Since I never went to school I had to get experience instead. I'm what you call a hands on experienced manager.

when I took this job I was up against a guy with a degree. I'm sitting at the desk not him:)

I work in the 911 critical communications industry.

29.5 and out of military duty just like my father and grandfather and his father. Started in Air Force because I thought that only dumbaysses went into the Army because their asvab score prerequisite was lower than the AF. Went in as linguist and wanted to be in combat control, right opportunity came up when I had the chance to try out for TACP. This placed me in a unique position of being enlisted in the Army at the same time as Air Force. After 3.5 years of non-stop training and certification courses I was able to take part in quite a few joint spec ops around the world. After a specific incident, my left knee was slightly injured and I decided to retire after my 6 years. This was all after graduating from HS and then going to Toyota T-Ten program in Birmingham, AL. I was aiming for TRD Engineering Group, but then found after joining and attending for 3 months that TRD was after 2 years of in-dealership experience on top of the other prerequisites. 2 years of being a pawn changing oil filters was not going to be in my future! After retiring from active duty, I decided to teach level 6,7 and 8 hand to hand combat certification courses to SFOD teams for 1.5 yrs. I opened two martial arts training facilities in Atlanta before moving here to get back into the industry we all seem to love. I still dabble with private lessons for 10-30yr old students. Income has steadily risen to mid/high 90k region as of '05. Most of this is from investments by creating early on a big network of friends and business partners. Having good friends in many places was a key for me. This next year I look forward to about a 27-33% increase in personal income as well as 4x the vacation time. After fighting so hard to get the hell away from family, I actually look forward to spending time with my parents and brothers again.

For the pilot above, it definitely is an inner yearning you guys have to pull back on the stick.....my father was and is a pilot. I love C130 gun ships the most because of him, now he and my uncle, both retired full birds are the private pilots for Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. G5's are in your future too if you want it! Dad is loving life again at 55, "F home building" he says!

I hope that you choose to not "stay" in school, but to "GO" to school. High School doesn't prepare anyone for anything. It was merely a means to get you passed through a really crappy public education system. College is where you "can" actually start to learn, or learn how to learn. The military will do the same thing for you as well as give you a chance to serve your country, which gives a man a real sense of fulfilment that most men don't even know they are searching for.

As for the guy above talking about the jobs in Indiana, after talking with friends that speak all over the world, Bryan Tracey, Zig Ziglar, Bob Alexander and a few other friends all say the same thing, India will be taking over a lot of those kinds of jobs and it won't be an American position in the near future. Already doctors and engineers are being leased from India to do the work at 1/2 the price on American soil. I would not want to be in engineering in 2006+, personally.

Nothing but admiration for you asking these questions here. The will to learn, tenacity and to practice humility are keys no matter what.

Ohh, so you're one of those people that go "This is 911, what's your emergency"

Anyway, graduated high school, then right after I went to culinary arts school //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've gotten paid as high as $24 an hour, and as low as $12 an hour.Up here in potato land I don't get paid shit.Utah and Colorado I made much better money. So it really depends on where ya are.

22 and working on the masters degree. got the BS in EE last year, if all goes well, i'll have my MS this summer.

I have to say, if you're worried about essays in engineering, your probably missing the real hard parts. its my experience that logic and understanding of the math beyond the symbols in an equation is the real _hard_ part and writing about it is easy. engineers tend to be concise in writing, unless they are BS's a report that needs to be X pages when it fits just fine in X/2 pages.

My suggestion is to take interest in your feild. just because you haven't _formally_ learned about a subject does not mean you cannot learn it anyways. likewise things that you learn can be applied to other things you already know. people who are likely smarter then I am often come to me for help because i also know things. also, professors usually look for motivated students.

Have an AS in Electronic and Computer Engineering, trade school for Class A CDL's with all endorsements, and Journeyman electricians license. I am a Traffic Engineer. Work on intersection signal lights, street lighting systems, about anything to do with traffic control, commercial and residential electrical wiring, underground and overhead lines, etc. Jack of all trades, master at none!

Basically, just find something that you have interest in that has a good outlook in the job market and go from there. Don't go into a profession/trade just because it will take you less time to graduate or to be certified. Make absolutely sure it will be something you are interested in! There's nothing like going to work everyday to a job that you hate!!! Life is too short......

What kind of degrees do you guys have? What type of schools?
I cant decide what to do after high school.

WOuld a Bachelors Degree in engineering really be that hard to earn?

I cant imagine keeping up with all the essays.

What kind of money are you making if you dont mind. Thanks
Also what field of Engineering? I went to a Technical College, not very many essays. Basically just theory and labs. Only real difference in Technical and an "University" is "enrichment" classes (core), and the title of your degree. I make enough money that I don't have to count every penny I spend.

when i was 18 and senior at high school, i had no idea what i wanted to do or where i wanted to go for college. i just went ahead and signed up at the local community college and earned my AA/AS general education that met the requirements for a 4-yr state college. it took me 2 years to get that and during those 2 years, i was just browsing around deciding what i wanted to do with my life and what field of study i wanted to succeed in. eventually, i got interested in the law enforcement field and now im working as a security officer at a local mall to just get a feel of what its like interacting with people and whatnot. so far, its interesting and i like it. this pursuaded me more toward law enforcement study.

after i received my AA/AS general education transfer, i decided to take a semester off and work as security for more expierence. i will eventually go into a 4-yr to earn my BS in criminal justice.

if your a senior at high school and are clueless on what u want to do after you graduate, go out and hunt for a job in the meantime. dont be that couch potatoe that lives off their parents and comes home at 2am with their parents worrying all the time about them. while working, browse around colleges and figure out what you want to do in life that you can enjoy and make a living off of.

if you like toying with mobile audio, you can always work at bestbuy or those other big name stores as a mobile installer. its a great start imo

plan a career that will get you somewhere...getting a degree as a hair stylist will be tough because not everyone in this world is big on that. a chef however is, because everyone eats. mechanic: everyone drives a mobile...you'd be suprised how many car owners dont know how to change their own oil or even know which kind to buy.

high school

31 ACT composite

college - too young, lasted 2 semesters

Navy - nuke electrician on subs - 6 years

industrial electrician - 3 years - couldn't stand union crap

automation programmer - 5 years

it manager - currently

I don't think I fit the poll options.

If you really want to have money, no matter what you do, read The Total Money Makeover, seriously.

lol @ the guy in the Army paying on 5 vehicles, useless.
