I do believe you would run into a burning building for your kids. There isn’t a whole politicized thread full of hate and BS about running into burning buildings. I’m sure you’d give a kidney or even your own life for your kids also. I don’t believe your Covid vaccine was motivated by wanting to keep others healthy though. The weakling down the street who has never done anything for anyone is also a hero like you, simply for getting a shot that Facebook told them made them a hero. Heroes sure come cheap these days.

The "vaxxed people are heros" is your narrative not mine. I'm not sure how getting another vaccine when I already had dozens of immunization shots counts as heroic or virtuous. It was a minor inconvenience. I never claimed it was heroic nor have I ever claimed some moral high ground over those that chose not to vax. Is that the new line of reasoning with the anti-vaxxers; since there is no credible anti-vax argument to be made based on empirical data, instead the vaccinated are fools for thinking we're heros for getting the vax? And yes, for many "pro-vaxxers" getting the Covid vaccine was about the greater good (herd immunity) in addition to their personnel health. Again, I'm astonished that if one of your motives for doing something is that is can benefit of others, in addition to yourself, that is somehow a bad thing.

Personally, I don’t think it’s virtue signaling you got the shot for your parents, especially with the info that was out at the time you did it. In all honesty even with any info, it’s your parents and you did what you felt was right. I don’t feel it’s a bad thing to do things to help or benefit others. That virtue only comes into play when you essentially brag about it or do it when there really is no benefit for others but yourself and try to push as it was to benefit others and not yourself. Got alot of people out there these days, especially ones who live on social media who crave a purpose and attention. I don’t have any social media but I’ve seen from plenty of friends people bragging they got their shot to save humanity or them wearing masks that don’t do anything and bragging they are wearing it to show look I’m saving lives or them just looking like idiots taking selfies with a mask on thinking they are cool lol.

There was definitely lot of hyperbole from the pro-mask/vax crowd as well as the anti-mask/vax folks. Remember Covid parties?

Nowhere on it does it say it prevents you from getting the virus or prevents infecting others, only that it protects you from being hospitalized, having long term effects, or death. Again when they eradicate covid or the flu, let me know and when you get the shots I’ll give you back your precious virtue.

Now let’s look at some vaccines that actually prevent you from getting something. These will give you the virtue you desire:

Polio vaccine 99-100% effective.

HPV vaccine nearly 100% effective preventing external genital warts. That’s great news who wants that lol.

Smallpox vaccine 95% effective at preventing it, that pretty darn solid.

Chickenpox vaccine over 90% effective, also pretty darn good.

Lemme guess: You think that the severity of the the illness or whether you get it or not has nothing to do with the odds you will transmit to others?

It's "clearly" seen because it's what you want to see.
Show me the details of how severe the infection was in each individual, vs their viral shedding.
Show me the stats that say the vax did nothing to help us not get COVID and nothing to help prevent or minimize the spread.
Show me the studies that say we shed the same amount of virus regardless of the severity of the illness.

These are all important factors in determining the efficacy of a vaccine.

The ONLY thing that changed for my daily life is that my employer was forced to accept the fact that people can work from home, and are actually more productive in doing so.
