As a Texan, I will say it was definitely colder than 40 degrees and we are NOT equipped for that kind of weather (our houses are not insulated like up north, fireplaces are a luxury and not necessity, and roads are not treated and the equipment to treat isn’t here). Yes our power grid personnel failed us miserably and it was finger pointing after that but who expected the federal government to help after that?

I made sure I was stocked up on essentials before the storm, had backup plans if power went out (it was), and have a 4wd truck to use if we needed to leave but unfortunately a lot of people don’t prepare and got stuck with their pants down. But, I will admit there were people who unfortunately were stuck and they were fish in a barrel.

I was making a sweeping statement, but honestly, no one should have died if they lived in a structure, regardless of power, fireplace, etc, even if temps were -20.

Your wording makes it hard to decipher what you are asking, but if you’re questioning who asked for federal help, it was Governor Abbot. Late February 2021, he requested disaster funds.

It’s hard to feel bad for the fish in a barrel who were there by their own volition. And they exist in every state.

I agree with you on no one should have died but unfortunately we have people who have no idea how to function without internet, electricity, phones and it’s sad. Also, fireplaces are becoming obsolete here.

I took that as citizens were asking for fed help so I misinterpreted what you said. It’s no shock to me that politicians “demand” federal help anymore. I remember after Harvey that Sylvester of Houston (who’s as corrupt as they come) demanded help and expected the trump admin to step up. No different than Abbot doing the same to Biden.

Agreed on fish in the barrel unfortunately.

I don't think the second amendment needs to be changed. Do you?

In fact, I think there are some really dumb gun laws that restrict our freedom.

I think that it could be tweaked. I don't think that our founding fathers were thinking of people AK-47's and AR's up and down the street with bump stocks and multiple high capacity magazines. That's just my opinion though.
