Most of the sh*t sold in grocery stores is cat p*ss. Every other country I've ever been to doesn't even consider American beer real beer. Beer has to have body and character. As soon as they start counting f*cking calories, that's when it all goes downhill.
I was in Prague just after Christmas last year, pretty much every restaurant serves Kozel beer. It's only 3% alcohol or so, but is so good. I love the Kozel dark. Believe it or not, it costs $0.75 per MUG there. Not available in the US and I did try to find it. Doppelbocks are nice. Was in Germany in December as well, got a good taste of a lot of stuff.
Your best bet would be those liquor stores that carry a huge variety of beer. If you have a YardHouse by you, they have a bunch on tap. If you like the dark stuff, I recommend the Moose Drool, Rogue Hazelnut Brown and Spaten Optimator.
