What is the performance differance between a high watt and low watt woofer?

If you understand that sound is merely waves within the air molecules, and that a speaker creates these waves via its back and forth motion (being very basic here heh), by 'displacing' the air, you'd then realize that the big issue in how loud you'll get isn't about power ratings or even efficiency specifically, its about who moves more air. The driver's excursion abilities, power ratings, efficiency and enclosure design all play a role in this, but ultimately its who moves more air that wins.

Therefore, when you ask which would be louder, the 500 watt setup or the 1800 watt setup, all other things being equal, as squeak said, its in the 'all other things' that are equal where your answer to whom is louder lies. If they are both displacing the same amount of air when all is said and done, they will both have the same SPL, even if one is running 100X the power, or one is in twice the sized box, etc.

Use the search function.
why would you not just answer the question, you could have probably explained it in teh same amount of words you used, and in the same amount of time it took to make that post. I think you are just being an *******. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsdown.gif.d22f25895e9b40f2300c953691dacfa2.gif

No. *******'s are people that dont try to help themselves but expect everyone else to help them.

The "Uberwoofer" is a custom subwoofer.

It's also off topic.
Squeak: Theoretically, that's all correct. But, if I remember rightly, YOU are the one who had "Don't buy a über-woofer if you have nothing to power it with" in your sig a long time ago, and here you are saying you could match up an 1.8 kilowatt sub with a 500 watt amp. Wow. It's like real life and theory are two completely different things! =p

Yeah, that wasn't me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

And I didn't say that you should match up an 1.8kw sub with a 500w amp; I said if you had two subs which both reached identical output with different power input, there would be no difference in sound //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Totally different than saying "slap a 500w amp on a 1800w sub and you'll be good".

Sorry you feel that way. But, a simple use of search button for the term 'uberwoofer' would have answered your question, in about 30 seconds, with only (minimal) effort on your part. Normally I dont complain when people dont use the search, but that's about as easy of a search topic as you'll find. The tool is there, you had the only clue you needed ('uberwoofer'), yet you instead want someone else to spend their time explaining it to you. And when I say to use the search function, you go out of your way to write a post to call me an *******, instead of simply searching and getting your answer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

You need a little perspective.
