What really makes for an SQ sub?
Is it the ability to respond to different notes quickly and without "lag", or more the ability to reproduce a certain type of sound? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif
I just purchased an ED 12O for my brother along with a 400W avionixx amp. It is in a 1.5cf sealed box built like a tank. It sounds GREAT.. however in my ears, it lacks warmth. It has mucho punch, and really sounds like a kickdrum in the trunk! It could keep up with anything we threw at it! Currently have the cutoff @ 80hz.. before, when I had 3 10" xplods, anything over 50hz was just UNBEARABLE! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
However, I felt it lacked the ability to reproduce rap/techno to my tastes.. it just lacked warmth, and fullness (smoothness)
It was, however, MORE than loud enough for me..
If only I could throw a Velodyne HGS-18 (now called the DD-18) in the truck... listening to that sub @ one of my buddies house was just.. ****ing... well.. better than sex! :thumbs_up
It posses all that I want in a car sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
So, what makes a sub have a fuller, richer sound while still being able to keep up with fast paced music? (the HGS-18 is the perfect example of this)
What gives a sub the ability to play real-real-real low?
I stress this, becuase the HGS-18 would play so low, you could feel it, and the only sound was **** around rattling.. oh it was sooo badass!! Why did Dave have to ****ing move to Arizona!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif THAT was verycool, IMO!
And, how can I achieve the sound I want, without massive SPL levels?? This is in a 100% daily-driver app.. no competition (SQ/SPL) whatsoever..
As far as what music I will be listening to.. (if this helps) Mostly rap and techno and a mixture of rock (heavy, industrial, soft, oldies) and some country. I drive a truck.. how could I NOT listen to country music? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
Thank you.
