it allows you to amp the midbass and tweeters seperatley, usually bi-amping is done with active crossovers, so it allows you a lot more freedom on your EQing

Certain passive sets have a biwire option. It allows you to run different power to each part of the set, say 75w to the tweets and 150 to the midbasses. Most sets that have the capability to do this have really good crossovers that are performing level matching and crossover smoothing and the results of using the passives are difficult to achieve with an active setup without a lot of time and effort.
