Insaneman ~ I think you've made this a bit too subjective to really get the thread response(s) you're after.

Best HU in regards to what? The best SQ? The best onboard signal processing? The best cosmetics? The best user interface? The clearest display? What exactly are you meaning by Best head Unit?

Nakamichi, Denon, The Alpine F1-status gear, and the Pioneer P9 combo as already mentioned by Chevy, I reckon would have to be at or near the top of the list as far as overall performance goes.

Also noteworthy would be the top offerings from Eclipse, the high-end Premiers by Pioneer, several of the Alpine are top-notch decks, Kenwood's eXcelon gear is much better nowadays than it was not long ago, Clarion's top Pro Audio stuff is really nice as well...the potential list goes on and on, really.

Hard to nail down a solid, irrefutable list of just a few examples when there's really heaps of solid performers available. Leaves too much room for opinion-based arguments for and against rather than factual ones.

Eclipse makes some solid HUs for the price as do Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, clarion, and EXAD JVCs are nice and even some of the Panasonics are nice (not user friendly. This thread is just way to vague. There is no best headunit, just like there is no loudest sub, or most powerful amp.

Alpine CDA-7998, just because that's what I have. I think it's the best HU for my needs, but might not be for everyone else's. See where I'm going with this?

Alpine in general makes great HUs, as does Eclipse, Pioneer, and Clarion. The best HU is what makes it BEST for you... Ergonomics, features, EQ, time correction, etc, etc, etc...

I will end this here...

I'm in the process of putting a system together, I am looking for good HU SQ with nice interface and user friendly. I have searched many forums to find what people are suggesting and have seen the majority seem to think thatthese are the best in this order 1. Eclipse, 2. Kenwood KDC 889, and 3. the Pioneer Premier series 860. I'd like to spend no more than $300 for the HU and would like a remote if possible. What do you guys think? I am also looking for an amp, but I'll post up with this in another thread. Would like to have 2-3 pre-outs, with at least 50Wx 4 channels and something where I can have control of the subs independently, maybe even a built in EQ. Thanx for the help...Jamie

bang for the buck.... sony...ive had a sony in every car ive ever had and they have all been awesome. however i am turning to eclipse now because i am getting more into sq now then i have ever been so i think the eclipse on paper is better. i wont know untill i get it this week.
