what happens if my amp is underpowered

two problems can occur. You can get dimming of your lights when the bass hits. If your charging system is REALLY inadequate for the amp you're running, you can get severe voltage drops that can fry the amp.

What amp are you running anyway. You usually don't see a problem until you go above 1000-1500w. Even up to 2000w can be run pretty safely in most vehicles by doing the big 3 and running a dedicated amp ground to the battery.

well im going to be running an aq2200d which pulls in about 200amps and it will be puttin out about 2200watts to 2 subs. I have a deka intimidator on the way but i was just curious.
You should be fine if you run a dedicated ground from amp to battery, and do the big 3 in 0 gauge. VERY rarely will you actually be pushing 2200w from that amp, for the simple fact that music is dynamic.

What size is your alternator anyway?

youve been told yes by multiple people. 140 amp alternator is plenty. my civic only has 80 amp alt and with my stinger batt it runs 1500rms just fine.

Your stinger battery... i'm saying my little *** lightweight NOT stock battery. It's very small and meant to be very light to conserve weight. Bought the car with it already on there. Pay attention.

Perhaps you should know something about audio and electronics before you start being a smartass.

Your equipment will pull power from the alternator, not the battery. Unless you plan on running it with the car off. It wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade to something like a Duralast Gold or Optima Red/Yellowtop in the future, but you will have no problem running 900w.

if there is a problem, which should be first in line for replacement? alternator or battery? also, which should i replace if i want to ensure a steady stream of 14+ volts to the amp? i'm not too concerned about powering everything with the car turned off. thanks.
