What generation of alpine type r should i get?

I have two of the Alpine SWR-10D2 powered by an Alpine 1100, they hit pretty good, but they don't like getting too low, it sounds like they are bottoming out, but I'm not sure.

I have a pair of the 1000 rms 12's. they get a good deal louder than the 600 rms model but don't sound as good.
Not to thread jack, but how do the 2012 r's sound different? I was very intrigued by the new suggested RMS ratings they got, always been a fan of the type r and hoped this new one would be a good improvement.

OP I've owned a couple pairs of the SWR 1222 and 1242's and I loved how they sounded with only 500rms on them.

I haven't done anything with them myself yet. They were previously my buddies subs. He had the 600 rms models previously. Both setups being in prefab ported boxes. The older models at 2 ohms on an mrp m2000 and the newest models on a kicker zx2500 @ 4 ohm. The 1000 rms models were extremely louder even on 500w less power. The sq isn't comparible to the older ones, the older ones sounded way better. But the new ones are deffiantely louder. With a full 2k in a custom box they would shine.

ahh i gotcha man, thanks for the info. I'd still really like to try them out though. Unfortunate to hear they lost some of their SQ, I always loved how warm and solid they sounded.

With 500watts of power, I'd look at Alpine new Type-S subwoofers with underhung voice coil. 15mm xmax, 500watt power handling. Online price is just a hair above $100. This should have better SQ than type Rs, while handling all the power you have.

That comparison is not very relevant given prefab ported box. A ported box should be built to subwoofer specs (well, sealed too, but the only thing you need to get right with sealed is volume, and most of the time it's not a big deal if box volume is off by 25-30% compared to 0.7 qtc box)

ahh my bad I missed that you said pre-fab boxes haha that will definitely affect their performance.
