What exactly does upgrading a battery do for amplifiers?

For example, if I set up my amps to put out their rated wattage and then get a new/better battery, what will that do for my amps? Will I need to turn down the gains or turn them up or leave them as they are? I understand that my voltage should on average be higher with a newer battery, how does this affect car audio gear exactly?

My reason for getting a new battery is because my current one has been having obvious problems and is dying, I'm curious what to expect when i swap it out. Thanks

You should leave settings on amp the same considering you have already set the gains with an oscilloscope or dd-1. The higher voltage from the battery is not great enough to affect the amp if you are going to replace it with a 12 volt battery in a 12v car. It will only produce a cleaner signal. I recommend XS Power they are a big step up even from the Optima yellow top that I used to have

I don't have an o-scope so i just went the route of testing the voltage output and getting it to the rated rms wattage it advertises. I know it's not the most accurate method, but I rarely listen to it anywhere near as loud as it is rated so I don't feel like I'm overpowering or clipping often

Right, that makes sense. I just was mostly wondering how I need to alter my setup with the new addition, like what adjustment might need to be made.

It provides more power, but at a lower voltage. Any draw you have on your electrical system will not pull from the battery until the voltage of your system reaches the battery's resting voltage, around 12.6V or whatever the resting voltage may be. Above that, it's your alternator doing the work. Realize that those dips could be milliseconds long, or they may be several seconds if you have a large draw.
