What exacly does a crossover do?

do they make active crossovers that you can put inplace of a crossover that comes with a component set? and is it what i already have the kicker kx3 i was told i would need that or something similar when it came time to get my midbass speakers working?

Lord jesus ! I feel on school again .... thanks Mastre John
one more question ...... regarding my amp ..... I saw the voltage on the scep and it say 12v to 14.5v is that correct? if yes do Amp run on diferrence Voltage? thanks once again
Your amp will be able to put out more power at higher voltage levels. Most cars' electrical systems go up to 14.4V but usually sit around 13.8V.

If your amp is rated at 14.4V, chances are, it's not going to put out quite what it's rated at, because your electrical system won't stay up at 14.4 while slamming your bass all day. Most "good" amps are rated at 12.5V or so, so they will generally put out at LEAST that amount of power (and more if you can keep the system above 12.5V)

When you crank up your system, you are going to want at least 12V to ensure your amp puts out a reasonable amount of power. If it dips below that, expect to lose the power your amp is capable of putting out.

Hope this helps...people tell me I should be a teacher, I'm good at simplifying things. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

no, active crossovers use active (externally powered) devices. the closest you could come would be to build small amplifiers into a box the same size as the crossovers, then attempt to power them off the speaker level signal from the main amplifier.

this isn't feaible, and likely never will be.

for actives to work, you need extra amplifier channels, and the active crossover itself to provide the signal to these extra channels.
