What does clipping sound like?

ouch, yea i should been sleeping an hour ago, but im addicted to this site. its like my mind has a hunger to learn more about car audio. o well. yea i got classes till 1 then off to the local lumber yard to work till 5:30 then outside to the shed to work on boxes till about 9, then some hw. its fun.

crappy equiptment will usually send off hissing noises or just plain static to the subs. Clipping will usually come from a good amp sending TOO much power to a sub that isnt handling it good IIRC. It could also be that the amp is just clipping and the sub could still handle more.

i'm 99% sure that isn't what clipping is. last time i checked, an 1800 watt amp on a 20 watt sub wasn't called clipping //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

now, the clipped signal may make a wave that'll pull more power from the amp, if that's what you mean. an amp driven to clipping makes the identicalsquare wave but for much longer, which i believe is a duty cycle if i'm not mistaken??

Wow... must be nice to relax like that. Go to work at 6am, leave at 3:30pm, other job at 4pm get out of work at 10:30pm. Scary part about that... I'm also in college. Fun to be me!
