What does an EQ do that a HU cant?

what are the advantages of having an external EQ prosessor rather than using the settings in the HU.

also, do you really need a 30 band? it seems like the 5-7 band EQs are sort of pointless, since even the cheapest HUs have what they have. but again, 30 band ones seem like theu would be overkill.

sor for those of you that use one, how many bands is it, and what does it give you over your HU?

Who says HU's can't have good EQ's built in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Depends on the kind of EQ you're talking about. A 7 band parametric EQ can be quite flexible, but a 7-band graphic EQ where the bandwidth is fixed isn't anywhere near as useful.

You really can't have too much EQ'ing power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

there is something wrong with their views system. if you look down at all the threads the number of views equals to the number of posts in that thread + 1. so yea.

as for the external eq, usually key word USUALLY an external eq will have more bands than the EQ inside the HU. The most bands i've seen in an HU is a 10 band parametric eq in the eclipse 8455. most have around 6 or under. but i feel that a 10 band eq is sufficient. i aint no super sq guy but 10 bands to me is good enough, i dont need 30 bands.

well i actually havent installed my new HU yet, so im not sure on the EQ settings it has, but ive been looking for deals on ebay for EQ processors. i figure if i get a good deal i really cant go wrong, wether i need it or not. the HU isnt anything fancy, so im sure i dont have anything special. (its a pioneer 3600 BTW)

so your saying if i set it up correctly, the EQ processor will make a noticible difference in SQ? or would i only need it if im having problems with my HU EQ settings?

And bumpin, you can go make your own stupid threads, but dont **** with other peoples questions

it is also easier to adjust that your h/u EQ. if you get a funky song here and there you can adjust your settings to it. and yes, you will notice a significant change in SQ. also, in most cases, you will have more input signal supplied to your amps.
