Seas 27TAFNC/G (H1397)

I installed a set of quart compoments in the front and a set of quart coaxials in the back of my Jag this past week. The 6 1/2's (QM 160's) have been taking turns blowing at the rate of about one every other day. The QM160's sound really good when they're new, but when they're 14 years old, they just don't hold up.

I ordered four Dayton RS 180's yesterday because I've heard lots of good things about them, and they're cheap as hell. At this point I'll assume this is a temporary fix. Money really isn't an issue, but if I can get some speakers comparable to my old Quarts for a lot less, why not? I figured I'd give the Daytons a try. If I'm not happy, I'll pick up four Scan-Speak mids and four high end tweets, so my girlfriend can bit(h at me because I spend too much money on what she considers to be "dumb shit". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So how will these SEAS tweets sounds with the Datyons??

Good tweeter. It's what I'm running now. They have a 4mm screw hole on the rear for easy flush mount. With the Dayton mids, expect to cross them down at 2kHz. You will not want to run the Daytons too high due to their higher frequency break up.

LOT of positive feedback on those tweets on diyma. But I don't believe they're well suited for the RS180s. The RS180's need to be LP'd around 1600-1800Hz and those tweets probably don't want to play down below 3kHz. You might be able to get away with it, but that's a pretty big underlap.

There's better tweeters availabe to pair up with the RS180's, so do some searching/reading on diyma...

good tweets from what i've read. don't know much about the dayton's. if they say don't cross them above 1.8k then you may want to play with the tweeter crossover points a bit. as far as your g/f saying it's "dumb shite", is she making the money to pay for them? i didn't think so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. since you're not scared of DIY drivers, you may want to look into the Alpine AT19's if those Seas don't work out.

I have some for rear fill and they sound pretty sweet, not sure about the transition with your mid, it seems that others think the mid doesn't play well high enough to let the tweet cross over at about 3k, you will have to play around with it a little to see. i personally dont have aproblem with them, the mesh well with my illusions. good luck

Never used it personally, but it's regarded as a very nice small format tweeter, often compared to the LPG26NA, which is what I use.

The LPG is by far the softest metal dome I've heard, much softer than my previous Type X tweets (older fabric dome, not the ring radiator versions).

I know my LPGs can play down to 2khz, but it's a bit harsh 2.5k was much easier on the ears for me. A slight gap from 2k to 2.5k isn't bad and with a shallow slope on the mid, it shouldn't be very audible.

Ok, then I guess my next question will be about the soft dome version, the Seas 27TFFNC/G (H1396). How does it compare to the aluminum version? Has anyone heard both, or compared them?

I think generally the people that have heard both, prefer the aluminum version, go over to DIYmobileaudio.com and check out the review section, should be a few posts over there about it.
