R.I.P. Gossamer!!
The DHL courier that works the route which encompasses my PayPal Confirmed address was kind enough to leave me a box yesterday.
THIS box:
I could have wished that it wouldn't have just been left on the doorstep where anyone walking by could see that there was an amp sitting there (this is how is was sent to me...in this box with no outer wrapping) but thankfully the neighborhood this was in is a quiet, upper middle-class neighborhood where things do not have a tendency of walking off on their own.
So - what was in the box?
THIS:
The amp, it's remote gain control (which I won't be using), and the owner's manual.
Which Diamond Audio D6-series amp is it you might ask?
THIS one!
Sitting with my Kenwood Performance Standard KAC-PS150 and my Orion 222SX for a size reference:
My impromptu test bench very quickly set up (thrown together more like!) so that I could verify its funtionality before bothering to put it in the car:
Gotta feed it the voltage, man!!!
A quickly scavenged piece of wood painted flat black and drying to be used for a mounting surface:
My new (to me) Diamond Audio D61500.1 and the Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X401M it is replacing sitting next to each other. Pretty significant size difference from one to the next:
And after a late-night install (who else has a problem waiting to play with their new toys?!?) it is now in Gossamer's trunk feeding my M6mkII 12" @ 2 Ohms:
All I can say is while I am still a fan of the KAC-X401M because it is a more than adequate performer within its usable limits this D61500.1 is just better. No, it's not just psycho-acoustics. With only swapping one amp for another and still running the same sub at a 2 Ohm load this Diamond is, simply put, much more amplifier.
Maybe of these days I'll step up to the point where I can take advantage of the available power @ 1 Ohm I now have to see what moving up to the 1kW+ Club is all about. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
