What Did I Do!?

Hey guys! I took my 2 13W7s out of my AMG so I could make it faster and put them in my warehouse. I just got a new SUV and took them out and about a quarter or half inch above the outter rim I have what looks like a puncture the size of a small screw. I don't know how the heck that happened!?!? Anyways, I am going to be taking them to the audio shop to have them make me a new ported box next week and wanted to know if this is a big deal or not really? Did i ruin my speaker or is it still good? Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

- Mike

I don't think you ruined your speaker by a small puncture..

You probably won't notice a thing, but you could throw some silicon on the back or inside of the surround to seal it back up. or leave it and deal with your mistake, (or whatever happened)

Andrew

Hmmm... I thought about just leaving it alone but would it slowly rip bigger? And how bad for the box would it be if I just left it alone until it got too big and then had to unscrew it? Its bad to take speakers in and out correct?

Its 1 of 2 13W7's going in my SUV in a ported box (i assume this may take away pressure that would tear it further), each will be powered by a 1000/1

So is the hole in the foam surround? You will want to fix that for sure. That surrond keeps the speaker sealed while it's moving, most likely it will get worse and worse fairly quickly. It will also cause air leaks that may or may not be audible to you. Take a small amount of silicone and seal it back up.

Hmmm. This is going in my brand new SUV that I will take to shows. Should I sell it on ebay or just seal it with silicone. If you think I should seal it, what do I do? Open the wound, put silicond inside and close it, and then put tons of silicone on the inside of it and maybe a dab on the outside? - Mike
