What did I do wrong to make this happen?

This is what the xover looked like when I opened it, the blue cylinder must have burst open, I haven't heard any change out of these speakers at all(Driverside door).

This next one is the passenger side speaker xover and this one's tweeter has been cutting out at times when I play it for an extended persiod at semi-higher volumes, nothing crazy though.

Sorry I'm not too familiar with parts names but it's the black round thing that you can pretty much only see in pic. 2.

Now my question is; was this something that I did by playing it too loudly or not having it hooked up right? I have them connected to a Sundown 100.2 at 4 ohms and the gains are set very low with the xover set at about 120hz. Now again, I'm wondering if this is something I did wrong or if it's something possibly wrong with the amp.

Thanks in advance and if there's any other data you need please ask,

Toby

The black stuff on the inductor is probably there to keep the coil from buzzing at higher power, that's common. The blue thing is a capacitor and it's a goner. You can replace them with the same value. That looks like a pretty standard 12dB / octave crossover so it's probably a cap that was in parallel with the driver, that's why you can still hear it. If it were in series with the driver you would not hear it after that cap exploded. Basically that means that you are now at a 6dB slope on that driver which could potentially be dangerous for the tweeter. How old is this set of crossovers?

Man my gains were set real low and the rms on these is exactly what I'm giving them I believe. The set is about a year old, I was shocked when I looked at these and I've been trying to get a hold of DD for days but to no avail.

well you burst a cap on one and cooked the inductor on the other

In did notice a little bit of rust on the xover with a blown cap, could have shorted it out...

i say get another xover and see if it happen again

Yeah the blue cap was for the woofer, you should have more midrange energy coming from it now. Might be sounding a little strident at this point. The good news is the tweeter is still protected from low frequencies. But now your phase behavior is not the same in the crossover region between the drivers, neither is the net frequency response.
