What could cause the big fuse to blow

a fuse will blow if the power wire shorts out.

meaning if it is ran through fire wall without

a grommet and the wire casing got cut from the metal it will short out and blow said fuse

thats not the only reason..doesnt sound like your problem in this case

fuse pops to protect your amp..or your vehicles electrical when theres a possible problem with your amp..or vise versa. maybe you just need a bigger fuse? or bigger wire? (if you get bigger wire, youll want a bigger fuse 150a, 200a, 300a) what kinda equipment you runnin?

You should be fusing the power wire for the cable gauge, not to protect the amps per se. If it blows it's shorting out somewhere. But if your amps are pulling more current than the cable can handle, and consequently the fuse, then that's your problem. So yeah, what's the setup?

And the ground wire, doesn't matter if it's larger, no damage done. It can even be a little smaller if it's a short run. Same size is ideal tho.

You should fuse for the smallest wire. Also if one wire is of lesser gauge, your system acts as if the whole thing is run with the smaller wire. Think of a 1/4" hose hooked to a 1" hose. Either way, you can only run as much water as the 1/4" hose will allow.

You should fuse the main from battery and then run a fused distribution block for each component. You should fuse to the wire size being used.

Things that cause blown fuses, Over current, Shorts, Faulty connections, Heat etc...
